Help feed the pets of the homeless - The Petaluma Argus-Courier

Hansel Toyota is collecting food in it first annual Fill-a-Prius event

Joining a massive effort to collect pet food for the dogs, cats, birds and other pets of homeless people, Hansel Toyota is hosting one of six nationwide, month-long Fill-a-Prius events in collaboration with Feeding Pets of the Homeless, a national nonprofit based Carson City, Nevada.

During the month of October, each location will attempt to fill up a Prius with a variety of packaged pet foods, to be distributed locally. Donations will go to nearby shelters and service providers who assist homeless individuals and their Pets in and around Petaluma.

“We’re excited to take part in this important cause,” said Hansel Auto Group’s Merilee Alvarado. “Pets play a critical role in the lives of people experiencing homelessness. We hope our community will join us in supporting these pets to ensure no one goes hungry.”

Acceptable donations can include: Pet treats, canned and dry food, open bags of food (secured with tape) plus new and gently used collars, leashes, bowls, toys, beds and crates.

To donate, bring pet food to Hansel Toyota, at 1125 Auto Center Dr. in Petaluma, any day between now and October 31. The goal is to completely fill up the Prius on display at the dealership. Hours are 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Saturday, and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sundays.
